Halo Reach : Hands on and Bungie Interview

Halo_Reach_Event

Well ThumbPad readers, I was lucky enough to be sent to a Microsoft event this past week and I gotta tell you, it was pretty damn good. I got to see Halo: Reach in action as well as play a bit of the Firefight mode, see some Kinect being played before my eyes, as well as listen to Buzz Aldrin. What the second man on the moon was doing here to promote a video game I have no real idea... But I'm not complaining. It was an interesting night which I'll now tell you about and I took quite a few pictures. Unfortunately I'm a terrible photographer.

A look back at Sam Fisher and the Splinter Cell Series

Splinter Cell screen 2

The Splinter Cell franchise has been kicking it stealth-style since 2002 when the first title in its critically acclaimed portfolio introduced series leading man Sam Fisher and his employers the secretive black ops organisation Third Echelon. It won over countless stealth converts with its stylish game play, top shelf graphics and well scripted storyline and remains one of the highest rated xbox/ps2 games of all time. Since the series' humble beginnings, players have followed Fisher as he silently ploughed through four flagship games (and a plethora of handheld tie-ins and spinoffs) building upon the solid foundation and game play created by Ubisoft almost eight years ago. With the release of the fifth and most recent instalment - Splinter Cell: Conviction, it's time to take a look back at the evolution of the series and Sam Fisher's trademark goggles and see just how far they have come.

Halo Reach Beta Impressions

Reach_MPBeta_PowerhouseStockpile2

Halo is a franchise with more fan boys and haters than just about any other in the history of video games. Since its Xbox launching title Halo: Combat Evolved, the franchise has produced two successful sequels in Halo2 and Halo 3, a spinoff RTS game in Halo Wars and a bridging chapter in Halo 3: ODST. On the back of so much critical success, developers Bungie are heading once more into the breach for their Halo swansong. Halo: Reach acts as a prequel to the original xbox classic and thanks to Bungie's relentless pursuit of quality, players who have purchased Halo 3:ODST have now had a few days to get their hands on the multiplayer beta test of the new Halo title.

Ways To Improve The Playstation Network

PSN_Logo

When Sony first launched the PS3 in 2006, the PlayStation Network was pretty dismal, with many features which were standard on Microsoft's Xbox 360, launched a year earlier, missing on the PS3. Over three years later now and the PSN has become a feature-heavy online service with one main advantage over Xbox Live - free online play. However, with the constant firmware updates and introduction of new features, the PSN is still criticized for missing some very important features which gamers are screaming for on blogs and forums, and instead adding features which aren't requested or wanted by the consumers. This article is a basic rundown of how I would improve the PlayStation Network, and perhaps a bit of an early guess at a few of the features of the future premium PlayStation Network.

Some of the highlights included Ubisoft's Avatar based on the upcoming movie by director of Terminator 2 and Titanic, James Cameron, in which the audience had the chance to view and play on a JVC 3D TV. Having experienced it first hand, I was really impressed not only did it look amazing it gave us a glimpse of what we have to look forward to in the future.
